Workshop Director: Dr. Deborah Simpkin King
We are excited to announce that the clinician for this year’s Choral Workshop is Dr. Deborah Simpkin King, Founder and Artistic Director of the choral ensemble Schola Cantorum on Hudson and member of the Music Faculty at Caldwell College where she conducts the Caldwell College Choir. Dr. King holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of North Texas as well as a Master of Music in Music Education from North Texas State University. Locally, she has coordinated the Annual High School Choral Festival for co-host New Jersey Chapter of the American Choral Directors’ Association for the past eleven years. Dr. King’s experiences as a vocal performer, writer and editor add to her understanding of the demands on choral singers.

The goal of this year’s choral workshop is to learn healthy and safe vocal techniques. We all love to sing and healthy techniques will prolong our musical careers and help us cut those “I have no voice” days to a minimum. Come learn, enjoy, and bring some great new ideas back to your own ensembles. We look forward to a great day of music.

Now in its 29th year, Concord Singers continues to fill a unique niche in our local arts community. We are a non-audition women’s community chorus dedicated to presenting quality musical performances that entertain our audiences and enrich our members. Our home is at Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, and we invite all interested women to consider membership. Concord Singers regular rehearsal time is Monday evenings, 7:30-10:00. Why not come to the workshop and “check us out?”
